With the Western Conference Finals decided, and only one series left to figure out in the East, its time to revisit the latest NHL Stanley Cup winning futures odds.
Eastern Conference:
Montreal Canadiens: +400
We'll start out east as the improbable giant killer Montreal Canadiens knocked off the #1 overall seed Washington Capitals in seven games, then sending the defending Champion Pittsburgh Penguins golfing in another 7 game miracle.
The Canadiens are being bolstered by the ridiculous play of both Jaroslav Halak an Mike Cammaleri,
Currently, the Habs Stanley Cup Winning odds are set at a respectable +400 - the best out of the remaining three Eastern Conference teams.
Philadelphia Flyers: +1000
The Flyers needed a play-in game to even make the playoffs, and here they are in a game seven against the Boston Bruins. The flyers knocked off the heavily favoured New Jersey Devils in the first round, and although they looked like they were on their heels early, they have given the Bruins everything they can handle in this series. Unfortunately, oddsmakers don't see a Stanley Cup in their future, as they're odds have them as the dark horse in the league at +1000 to oust the mug.
Boston Bruins: +900
The injury depleted bruins limped into these playoffs s the sixth seed in the east and weren't expected to much at all. Then Tukka Rask showed up, and cagey veterans like mark Recchi began overcoming the inure bug on behalf of the Bruins. The next thing you know they've dispatched the Sabres and were looking to sweep the Flyers. They've hit a speed bump in the late stages of this Philly series, but they have a Game 7 heading to home ice.
Western Conference:
San Jose Sharks: +165
The western conference has been the complete opposite of the East. The last two teams standing were actually the top two teams in the regular season, whereas out east, we're looking at the bottom three.
San jose and Chicago were only one point apart in the regular season and with the firepower they bring, they were surprisingly outscored by the Hawks over 82 games. The Sharks have spent the two seasons atop the Western Conference regular season standings, but failed to do anything com payoff time. But after an early scare against the Avalanche in round one, the Sharks finished off the Av's in six, and obliterated the defending Western Conference Champion Detroit Red Wings in a lopsided 5 games. They look like the playoff monkey is long gone, but surprisingly, they aren't the overall favourite to win the Stanley Cup.
Chicago Blackhawks: +160
The only knock against this highly talented Chicago squad has been their lack of experience, but now for the second year in a row they find themselves in the Western Conference finals, having outlasted a game Vancouver team showing poise and composure throughout the series. They've always had cockiness and swagger, but now they have experience and confidence to go along with it. That is why they are slight favourites heading into the west final series vs the Sharks, but are also the favourites to win the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup.
