-The Pittsburgh Penguins rank 5th on offense, and average 3.1 goals per game. The Penguins are 16.0% on the power play and have scored 34 power play goals.
-The Washington Capitals rank 1st on offense, and average 3.7 goals per game. The Capitals are #1  on the power play at 25.1% and have 47 power play goals.
-Washington is the highest scoring team in the league at 3.8 goals per game.
-The Penguins are averaging 3.6 goals per game at home, and give up 2.6 goals against on defense.
-The Capitals are averaging 3.5 goals per game on the road, and give up 2.9 goals against on defense.

Washington Capitals - -105

Washington is on quite a role. They have won four straight games and sit in first place in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals have averaged 4.5 goals per game during their four game streak and show no signs of slowing down.  The Offense boasts six players with more than 31 points and Defenseman Mike Green has a mind-boggling 50 points himself.  It doesn’t matter that the Capitals are on the road Thursday night, they will score enough goals to provide their fans with another win.

Pittsburgh Penguins –115

The Penguins are only 5-5 in their last 10 games even after a successful Western road swing.  The Pens have been inconsistent lately, but still seem to be scoring some goals. The best young all around tem in the NHL has a tough task in slowing down the powerful Caps. This is a statement game - one that will determine who is the best team in the East right now. Pittsburgh is too inconsistent to rely on, and Washington is just too Hot at the present time. Look for a close game, but ultimately a loss for the Defending Champs.

Pick: Washington Capitals -105

New York Rangers (24-19-7) @ Philadelphia Flyers (24-21-3)
When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, January 21, 2010
Where: Wachovia Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

-The Philadelphia Flyers rank 7th on offense, and average 3.0 goals per game. The Flyers are third in the NHL on the power play at 23.7% with 45 power play goals.
-The New York Rangers rank 18th on offense, and average 2.7 goals per game. The Rangers are 19.4% on the power play and have 36 power play goals.
-The Flyers average 3.3 goals per game at home, and give up 2.8 goals against on defense.
-The Rangers average 2.3 goals per game on the road, and give up 2.5 goals against on defense.

New York Rangers - +120

The Rangers are currently enjoying one of their best streaks of the season and seem to have turned the corner toward respectability. They are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and will look to put some space between them and one team that is chasing them in the standings - the Flyers. New York excels on the road and should prove to be a tough matchup for the streaking Flyers.

Philadelphia Flyers - -140

Philadelphia is currently one of the Hotter teams in the NHL and has been bolstered by the return of their #! Goalie, Ray Emery from injury. The Flyers are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and boast the talent to be a contender. They have once again underachieved however. Expectations are high in Philadelphia, lets hope that morale and the level of play continue to be too. I like the Flyers to continue their climb toward the playoffs in a “must - ish” win game.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers -140
